Update

Hello there!

If you are reading this, there may be a chance that you are considering hiring me for a job (woo-hoo!). This blog was created when I was first learning how to blog, back in 2012. I was familiar with the program, because I kept a blog on my study abroad experience.

I wanted to post this to let any future employers know that, though I have not kept a blog recently, I am still familiar with the program and plan to incorporate blogs into my future classroom. If you happened to read my post "All About Me", I would like to take this time to update you on just a few changes since writing that post over three years ago. There are a few things that have changed.

First, my views on technology. While in college, I became interested in technology during the semester after I wrote the blog. I no longer have a love-hate relationship with technology. I have a LOVE LOVE relationship with technology! I believe that, if done properly, technology can enhance teaching opportunities. I am not a person that believes that technology should be the focus of a classroom, but if technology can help me better deliver the content that I am trying to teach my students, I fully support the idea of implementing the use.

Second, my name. Three years ago I wrote the blog as Ellen Dotson. I have recently gotten married, so my name changed to Ellen Haldeman. (Therefore, if you are searching me, the majority of my past information, including my teaching license, will be under my maiden name.)

Thirdly, my interests. I have always loved Disney, which has not changed. (While I am at work, I prefer the Disney pandora station.) A question in the blog "All About Me" asked what I always keep in my fridge. After three years, I laughed when reading  my answer! The carrots have not changed, they are still my go-to snack food. But I can easily replace cheese and jello to fruits, veggies, and raw meat. My husband, a great cook, has done a very good job of teaching me more ways to be healthy! We enjoy  working out, playing cards, and spending time with our dog, Max.

Thank you for learning more about me. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at ellenhaldeman@gmail.com.

All About Me!

FYI Dossier for: Ellen Dotson

Major: Middle Childhood Education- Science and Social Studies

I want my friends to describe me as: friendly, energetic, loyal, loving, smart, and dedicated.
Memorable learning experience: I studied abroad in England last spring, I learned so much!

My favorite subject at school and why: Social Studies- I am always fascinated when I learn more and feel like I can never know enough.

Accomplishment I most cherish: My study abroad. I used to be afraid to be alone, and I went to another country for six months by myself. I traveled to 14 different countries and was able to make friends and experiences to last a lifetime.

My work habits can best be described as:   consistent and efficient

Three words that describe me best: Curious, Friendly, Hardworking

People may be surprised to know: I am an entomologist (bug scientist. I know a lot about insects.)

What I hope to be doing in ten years: teaching fourth or fifth grade and working to become a elementary school principal.

What I do in my spare time: Read, play cards, play piano, sleep, bond with my friends

Things I can do without:  Sass, TV, people who are conceited or think they know all there is to know.

My all-time favorite movie: Sweet Home Alabama.

BG’s best kept secret: I can't tell you...

Three things always found in my refrigerator:  Cheese, Carrots, Jello Cups

Person I would like to meet: Oprah

What are your general expectations about this class? I expect to learn how phonics works and how I can use it in my future classrooms.

How comfortable are you using Windows? How comfortable are you using Macs? I am comfortable with Windows, I do not have much experience with Macs but am a fast learner.

Which application(s) do you use the most? Microsoft (Word, Excel), Evernote, and Google Classroom.

Which application(s) do you want to learn how to use? More professional applications (but I have no idea what those would be) or something that is becoming more useful. Also, Wolfram Alpha.

Is there anything I need to know about you? I don't think so. I'm a hard worker and eager to learn.

What is your attitude about using technology? I love it and hate it at the same time. It fascinates me but I struggle knowing how some things work.
